  August 18, 1940 - August 5, 2019 (age 78)

       Msgr. Joseph P. Penna J.C.D. a retired priest of the Archdiocese of New York and former long-time Pastor of St. Aedans, was called home to God on Monday, August 5, 2019.
  
       Msgr. Penna was the son of the late Theresa and Joseph Penna.
  
       Msgr. Penna was ordained a priest on May 27, 1967 at St. Patrick Cathedral, he was given the following assignments throughout his priesthood: St. Stephen Church, Warwick, NY 1967-1968; Catholic University: Doctor of Canon Law 1968-1971; staff member of the Metropolitan Tribunal 1971-1973; Blessed Sacrament Church, NYC 1973-1975; Canon Law Professor at St. Joseph Seminary 1975-1994 and Administrator/Pastor of St. Aedan Church in Pearl River, NY 1994-2015. In August 2015 he retired to St. Anthony's in Nanuet, NY and in April 2016 he resided at St. John Vianney Residence for retired priests in Riverdale, NY.
  
       During his tenure as a professor at St. Joseph Seminary, Msgr. Penna was a Canon Law Consultant for the newly established Diocese of Metuchen, NJ.
  
       He is the beloved brother to John, Maria McDonald and Teresa Zaiens and brother-in-law to Robert and Peter. Also, survived by six nieces and nephews and eight grand nieces and nephews as well as many parishioners and faithful friends.
  
       Visitation was held on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at St. Aedan R.C. Church , 23 Reld Drive, Pearl River, NY 10965.  A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated 10:30 am Thursday, August 8, 2019 at St. Aedans.  Burial followed at St. Anthony Cemetery, Nanuet, NY.
  
       In lieu of flowers friends may send memorial donations in Msgr’s name to Parish Visitors of Mary Immaculate P. O. Box Box 658 Marycrest, Monroe, NY 10949.
