Saint Aedan’s was proud and happy to welcome home our newly ordained Deacon Ryan Muldoon. Ryan is pictured with his mother Nancy and his father Bruce and our pastor, Msgr. Nevin. Ryan was ordained in Rome, and God willing, should be ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of New York this May 25th. He will then celebrate his first Mass here at Saint Aedan’s on Sunday, May 26th at 2:00 followed by a parish reception in the gym. "We welcome you home Deacon Ryan. Your visit has made this a truly Blessed Christmas for your parents, loved ones and your entire parish family!"

Are you someone who has come to some knowledge of Jesus Christ and who is attracted, in some way, to become a member of our Catholic Church?
Are you willing to invest some time each week to learn about the Catholic faith, to ask questions and to receive some informative answers?
Are you willing to work with us in getting you prepared to receive the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Holy Communion and Confirmation) at our annual Easter Vigil Mass on Saturday evening, March 31st? (Private reception may also be arranged.)
RCIA provides an opportunity for candidates to consider what God is saying to them in the Scriptures; what changes in their life they need to make to respond to God’s inspiration, and what Baptism in the Catholic Church means.
Are you someone who was already baptized a Catholic but whom, for whatever reason, never received the sacraments of Holy Communion and/or Confirmation, but would now like to be prepared to receive these sacraments? RCIA provides an opportunity for you to be brought into full communion with the Catholic Church.
If you answered YES to any of these questions, please contact us and let us know of your interest. We are moving forward with plans to start up an RCIA program this fall and we would love to have you join us. Please call the Saint Aedan Parish House at 845-735-7405, or email us at staedan@optonline.net and someone will get back to you.
Dear Parish Coordinator of the Catechumenate (RCIA),
Greetings to you and to your community. I pray all is well as you continue to journey with those seeking membership in our Catholic community or those seeking to complete their Catholic Christian initiation. May the Lord bless your efforts.
As you know, the Archdiocesan Rite of Election will be celebrated on the First Sunday of Lent, March 10, 2019 at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Manhattan with our Archbishop, Timothy Michael Cardinal Dolan.
Online registration has already begun at: https://adnyriteofelection.eventbrite.comadnyriteofelection.eve...
Please know that online registration ends at 5p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28th. All catechumens: adults (14+) and children (7-13), who are found ready for all three sacraments of Christian initiation – baptism, confirmation and Eucharist – are to be registered for the Archdiocesan Rite of Election. Please be sure to fill out all fields in the registration form. After registering you will receive an email from specialevents@archny.org confirming your registration. You will not need a ticket. Registered parish groups will be sent their pew assignments by Monday, March 4th.
The Archdiocesan Rite of Election is the liturgical rite which closes the period of the Catechumenate proper, that is, the lengthy period of formal pastoral formation for the catechumens. This rite marks the beginning of the period of Purification and Enlightenment, which is a time for more intense spiritual formation.
This rite is called election because the acceptance made by the Church is founded on the election by God, in whose name the Church acts. This rite is also called the Rite of Enrollment of Names because as a pledge of fidelity the catechumens inscribe their names in the Archdiocesan Book of the Elect, the book that lists those who have been chosen for Christian initiation in the Archdiocese of New York.
This election is the focal point of the Church’s concern for the catechumens, thus admission to election belongs to the bishop, which in New York is our archbishop, Cardinal Dolan. Before the Archdiocesan Rite of Election is celebrated, the catechumens are expected to have undergone a conversion in mind and in action. Before the celebration of this rite, the parish community represented by the pastor, priests, deacons, catechists, godparents, and sponsors should discern / deliberate the readiness of the catechumens for election by the Church.
In order to assist with the discernment / deliberation process, please go to:

In the Archdiocesan Rite of Election the godparents exercise their ministry publicly for the first time. They affirm the readiness of their catechumens and accompany them for the signing of the Archdiocesan Book of the Elect. From the day of their election, the catechumens are called “the elect”. At this rite, they are officially invited to the celebration of the sacraments of initiation which are to be celebrated at their parish’s next Easter Vigil Mass.
Cardinal Dolan will proclaim at the Archdiocesan Rite of Election:
“My dear Catechumens, I now declare you to members of the elect, to be initiated into the sacred mysteries at the next Easter Vigil.” RCIA 133
For those who are already baptized, and have participated in their parish Catechumenate (RCIA) process as candidates, and are found ready for the completion of their sacraments of Christian initiation (confirmation and first holy communion), the Church offers a special ceremony (rite) called the Rite of Calling the Candidates to Continuing Conversion. This rite may be celebrated on the First Sunday of Lent, either at a parish Sunday Mass or at a parish Liturgy of the Word. The presiding celebrant for this rite is the pastor or a priest delegate.
At this rite, the parish priest celebrant will proclaim:
“My dear candidates, the Church recognizes your desire to be sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit and to have a place at Christ’s Eucharistic table. Join with us this Lent in a spirit of repentance. Hear the Lord’s call to conversion and be faithful to your baptismal covenant.” RCIA 454

Dear friend,
A blessed new year to you! As 2019 begins, you may be considering new ways to deepen your faith. We invite you to consider growing in your knowledge of why we believe what we believe as Catholics.
Do you ever think to yourself: "I say the creed at Mass, but I don't actually understand every word," or "What does living Catholic social teaching mean for today?" or "How did the early Church choose books for inclusion in the Bible?" If so, then Enlighten might be a good fit for you. Enlighten is a program of online courses offered in collaboration with Fordham University's Graduate School of Religion and Religious Education.
Each week coursework is delivered in small modules that can be completed at a time convenient for you. Lectures are presented in a combination of video and audio formats. Readings and other resources are provided. Participation in the program is a step toward certification for catechists. Best of all, the program is open to all parishioners of the Archdiocese of New York, and, free of charge.
Winter classes start January 22nd.
